Growing up black in america without experiencing racism interview with blackhistorypeople.com2/4/2019 Above you will find my complete interview with blackhistorypeople.com about my first book, Growing Up Black in America Without Experiencing Racism: A New Reality and Hope for the Future. I am thankful to Kingsley for giving me the opportunity to talk about such a thought provoking book that I feel can help make our world a better place if the solutions mentioned are implemented. Change begins with the person in the mirror and moves forward from there. If I was unable to write such a transparent book that speaks about my own struggles and how I overcame them I wouldn't be able to help others overcome their own. In the interview, Kingsley mentions that my experience is not unique because it isn't. In today's world, 2019, there are far more people who have not experienced racism than ever before. I speak on many solutions to a lot of the issues we face today as opposed to the solutions of yesterday or years before. There is a quote included in my book from Oprah: "Excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism." This great quote stood out to me because in my book I speak about the fact that I have never experienced racism before as a black woman in America. I focus more on not being a victim but taking control of one's actions and being accountable for what happens in one's life. I also bring awareness to other things I have faced within my own community so that we can work on fixing those things instead of blaming racism as the biggest issue we face in America. Let me know your thoughts about the interview or my book if you have read it. Don't hesitate to add a comment below. I hope to engage in more conversations this year and work with others to help implement many solutions within this thought provoking book.
